The fight between Orlando Pirates Football Club and Kaizer Chiefs Football Club is one of the oldest rivalries in Africa if not the world, as the two clubs share a history of playing against each other for well over three decades. From the days of Jomo Sono, Marks Maponyane, and Kaizer Motaung senior this fixture has always provided fireworks, as we see with the current crop of players having the mentality of players from heater years who will do anything to not lose to their arch-rivals.
Pirates attacker Thembinkosi Lorch knows the grid and fight one has to bring to this match to come out victories, the 28-year-old has had in the recent part had his say in the outcome of the few derbies he has played in.
One of the few that comes to mind is the 2019 Carling Cup clash at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg where he terrorized Chiefs defence, and provided an assist and goal in a 2 - 1 victory for the Buccaneers.
Outside the field of play Chiefs and Pirates, players are not rivals as they are on it, as on more than one occasion they have been spotted together enjoying each other's company, and some of them are currently teammates in the Dstv Compact Cup which is played in Durban.
Representing the Warriors Football Club Lorch was spotted with Chiefs youngster Mduduzi Shabalala who is a fan of Lorch, the youngster took to his Instagram story @mduduzishabalala12 to share the image of the two players together in the colours of Warriors.
I think the Dstv Compact Cup provides youngsters a chance to learn and also interact with the best players the Dstv Premiership can provide, and also share the spotlight with some of their favourite players.
As for Shabalala and Lorch, they will certainly get a chance to together in the final of the competition next week against Coastal Football Club at Moses Mabhida stadium.
