Covid-19 pandemic has almost bring almost everything to a stand still in the world. Countries are now battling third wave of pandemic that has seen sharp increase in number of covid-19 infections and increase in number of covid-19 fatalities as compared to first and second waves. The virus has shaken countries economies including those of developed countries.
Development of covid-19 vaccine brought a ray of hope in the whole world in the fight against the deadly virus. So far Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines have already been approved for use and countries are now administering vaccines to their population. Though vaccines are yet to offer 100% protection against the virus.
Kenya received the first butch of AstraZeneca vaccine from COVAX facility. A total of 1.02 million doses were delivered and teachers, health care workers, security personnels and those working in hospitality industry were given first priority to receive vaccine.
As of yesterday, a total of 487,278 people had been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine. 118,833 are Health Workers, 39,523 Security Officers, 70,338 Teachers and 258,584 are other members of the public who include those at 58 years and above. This is according to ministry of health. Kenya has today recorded 486 new Covid-19 cases, raising the total to 146,156. Health ministry says 2,989 samples analysed in the past 24 hours. Positivity rate has jumped to 16.3% from 11.4% that was recorded yesterday.
