Sir Alex Ferguson was Manchester United's longest serving Manager and the most successful Manager in the history of the club and English premier league. He was appointed as the Manager of the club in 1986 and held down the job for almost 3 decades.

The Scotland International was responsible for bringing Manchester United out of the dinosaur era, polished the club and build it to the best Club in England and among the top clubs in Europe. It wasn't easy for Ferguson when he was first appointed as United Manager in 1986. He was unable to win the English premier league title for the Red Devils during his first five Seasons at the club.

However, when Sir Alex Ferguson got his first taste of Premier League's glory at the end of 1992/1993 Campaign, he became unstoppable. The Premier League title became monopolized by Manchester United as they kept winning it back-to-back.

Arsenal's longest serving Manager Arsene Wenger was seen as the first true equal of Sir Alex Ferguson. Despite the comparisons of the two Managers, Sir Alex Ferguson is miles ahead of Wenger in terms of Trophies won. Throughout his Managerial career at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger won just 3 Premier league titles and no UEFA Champions League trophy.

By the time Sir Alex Ferguson was retiring in 2013, he had won 13 English premier league titles and 2 UEFA Champions League trophies for Manchester United among other numerous domestic titles.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, Manchester United haven't been able to win the English premier league title. It's been 8 years since Ferguson left Old Trafford. A lot of Managers has come including Louis Van Gaal, David Moyes and Jose Mourinho but none of them was able to win the League title for the Red Devils.

Jose Mourinho was seen as the solution to United league drought but he was unable to bring United back to their glorious days. Jose Mourinho's tenure at United wasn't exactly a failure. He helped the club to win the Europa League in 2019 but that's nowhere close to what Sir Alex Ferguson achieved at the Old Trafford.

Despite Jose Mourinho's underwhelming performance at Manchester United, his records against Sir Alex Ferguson was quite impressive. Jose Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson faced each other 14 times during Sir Alex Ferguson's time and Mourinho only lost three matches.

The first time they met was during the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League in 2004. Jose Mourinho, who was still managing FC Porto at that time, hosted Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United in Portugal. Porto defeated their Visitors 2-1 in the first leg. The second leg at Old Trafford ended in 1-1 and Porto qualified on aggregate.

After that encounter in 2004, Jose Mourinho had become Chelsea Manager the next time he faced Ferguson. He was appointed Chelsea Manager in 2004 and that signalled the beginning of an intense rivalry between the Portuguese Gaffer and Sir Alex Ferguson.

They played against each in League encounters, FA Cup and the EFL Cup. Jose Mourinho went ahead to win the league title back-to-back in 2005 and 2006.

Out of the 14 times they faced each other, Jose Mourinho defeated Sir Alex Ferguson 6 times, Ferguson defeated Mourinho just 3 times while they played draw on 5 occasions.
