The South African health workers´ response to get booster shots has been described as disappointing. This was because of the low number of health workers who have responded to the initiative to administer booster shots.
There are only 200 000 healthcare employees who have since responded to the initiative . Professor Linda-Gail Bekker outlines that it was important for the healthcare employees to receive the jabs as the department prepares itself to battle against the fourth wave.
Professor Linda is a co-leader of the Sisonke Study, who expressed concern regarding how the small provinces have failed to have their healthcare employees receive the boost jabs .
Kwa-Zulu Natal is one of the provinces that has reportedly recorded a few healthcare employees taking the booster shots, even though it recorded a large number in terms of people who got vaccinated.
A call was made by Professor Linda for people to get vaccinated as it has been proven to be effective against reducing hospitalisations and deaths .
