It is no open secret that the American rap industry is filled with with a good number of artists whom have been known to have had a criminal record attached to their profiles in the past.

Gucci Mane has a criminal record long enough to make him fit into an episode of The Sopranos, according to a fast Google search, but his most known offense is one for which he was never punished.

According to official data, Gucci Mane was attacked by a bunch of individuals in Decatur, Georgia, in May 2005, and as such, his crew didn't take it well; then firearms were drawn and it happened that Pookie Loc, one of Gucci's assailants, was later discovered dead behind a neighboring middle school.

Gucci Mane, to his credit, turned himself in, claiming he killed Pookie Loc in self-defense; and fortunately for him, he was eventually let off the hook when county prosecutors abandoned the prosecution due to a lack of evidence.

Its also important to note that Gucci was in prison at the time the charges were dropped for assaulting a club bouncer with a pool cue.

2. Cassidy:

On April 15, 2005, the West Oak Lane neighborhood in Northern Philadelphia was anything from peaceful as Cassidy and two of his friends, armed to the teeth with pistols and an AK-47, got into an altercation with three defenseless individuals, and things quickly became nasty.

One of the three individuals who enraged Cassidy's group that night, Desmond Hawkins, was fatally shot in the back; eventually Cassidy's gang ended up in court after his two companions ended up in the hospital.

While the case appeared to be fairly straightforward at first, series of delays on the prosecution's part resulted in the trial continuously drifted in Cassidy's favor.

Furthermore, Cassidy's original accusations of first-degree murder were reduced to third-degree murder after the prosecutor's main witness withdrew from giving testimony to the court.

He was eventually convicted of involuntary manslaughter, for which he was sentenced to only eight months in prison.

3. Tupac Shakur:

Tupac Shakur was convicted of the worst of felonies in 1995, despite being widely regarded as one of the best rappers of all time and largely hailed for his socially progressive lyrics on several albums.
