The Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe constituency, Honorable Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, was the deputy minister of education during the first term in office of The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo. In Nana Addo's second term in office, Yaw Osei Adutwum was appointed as the Minister of Education to replace the competent Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the current Minister of Energy.
The NPP, in their quest to gain power, promised Ghanaians a lot of mouth watering policies. One such policy that made Ghanaians vote massively for them is the implementation and revival of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat. This scholarship scheme was introduced to pay the full tuition and accommodation of students who were qualified for it. The policy was initiated and implemented for the 2019/2020 batch. After that, nothing has been heard from the Ministry. The first batch of the free Senior High School policy were the second batch who were supposed to benefit from these Scholarship scheme. This is because, they digitally and electronically filled the forms last year. As at now, the list of successful applicants has not yet been released. This has created some sort of doubt in the mind of Ghanaians as to whether the government is committed in fulfilling this promise.
The Minister in charge of the education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, sector has not shown any sign of commitment. The negligence of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat is gradually becoming a failure under his tenure in the Ministry of Education. Considering his competence level when he was the deputy minister of Education, one cannot help but ponder on why politicians lose the vision and foresight which they earlier had upon assumption of such high positions.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum must draw and provide strategies to solve this problem because the Ghanaian citizenry are loosing hope in the NPP led administration.
