The immense popularity of football as a sport around the globe can't be overemphasized it a phenomenal that unites people of different colour, race and tribes all round. It serves as means of entertainment to those watching which literally makes footballers entertainers, something that that comes easy and natural to them because of their relative on screen performance on the pitch and also ability to not shy away from camera. It is as a result of this many footballers have towed the path of little stardom in onscreen theatre productions.

Here are the list of some popular footballers that has a part time stint on acting at one stage of their life;

1. Stan collymore

He called time on his career in 2001 at real oviedo after a short stint with them. he tried his hands at acting and was cast as Kevin Franks in the second installment of the classic Basic Instincts movie franchise, in which he shared a steamy scene with lead actress Sharon Stone.

Collymore also starred as himself in TV series such as This Morning, The Weakest Link, and The Verdict.

2. Ashley cole

Considered arguably as one of the best left back in history of the game Ashley cole is an English footballer who played for major top clubs in the English top flight. Ashley began his youth career at arsenal academy which he later made a professional first team debut for the gunners in 99' season going to rack up 228 appearances for the north London club. 3. Olivier giroud

The French maestro probably not known for his predatorial ruthless finishing but rather for his area presence and link up play with other attackers is a French footballer who hailed for chambers. He began his career at grenoble in ligue 2 before moving to tours on the summer of 2008 where he excelled which earned him a move to montpellier in ligue 1 and notably helped them to their first ever ligue 1 title before moving to north London outfit arsenal in 2012. He is currently on the books of Chelsea fc as he joins the pool of footballers to have made switch from west London to north london.

In November 2018, he revealed that he lent his voice as the Green Goblin in the French adaptation of the Spiderman animation series called: ‘Spiderman: New Generation‘.

4. Neymar jr

The 27-year-old due to his good looks and pr is also extremely marketable and was cast in the highly publicized movie, XXX; Return of Xander Cage where he had a short cameo, also starring Samuel L. Jackson and Vin Diesel.

5. Eric cantona

Born Eric daniel pierre cantona in Marseille is a strong physical imposing attacker with swagger and finesse popular called 'king Eric' by Manchester United fans. The French indifferent footballer who is a controversial but nonetheless talented athlete who infamously kungfu kicked a crystal palace fan in 1995 before been banned for 8 months for the violent conduct. He made switch from Leeds to Manchester united in 1992, he was credited to had played an important role in the resurgence of Manchester united in early 1990's .

Following his retirement In 1997 he tried his hands at acting, especially in his native France, with titles like Elizabeth, The Children of the Marshland, You and the Night, The Salvation under his belt, while he also starred as himself in his 2008’s Looking for Eric.

6. David Beckham

The evergreen good looking and celebrity footballer David Robert Joseph beckham is an English footballer who was famously part of the class of 92' that graduated from the Manchester United academy which consisted of Ryan Giggs, Paul scholes,nicky but, Phil and Garry Neville, they late went to be part arguably the best team premier league and Manchester United as a club has assembled winning the treble of trophies in 1999 season crowning the achievement at camp no coming back from behind to win Bayern's Munich. Predominantly known for his outstanding range of passing, crossing and jaw dropping free kick ability. He had a great career winning multiple trophy medals across europe, Individualy he came runner up twice for the fifa world best player and runner up for the ballon Dior in 1999.

He has, however, had shot at stardom on the screen starring as the projectionist in 2015’s spy classic, A Man from U.N.C.L.E, as well as the 2017 blockbuster, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

In the hit movie Deadpool 2, David Beckham appears as himself in a scene where Ryan Reynolds knocks on his door to give him an apology note for mocking his voice earlier.

7. Zinedine zidane

Popularly nicked zizou is a French footballer who played as an attacking midfielder for major top clubs across his career, he is three time fifa world best player, on the international scene he played a starring role for france national team to glory in the in the 1998 world cup where he scored 2 goal in the final to sink Brazil to lift the coveted football showpiece. He had his own fair share of controversies when he headbutt Italian player materazzi in the grand football showpiece between France and Italy which france later lost on penalty shoot out . After retiring he tried his hands on coaching where he was appointed as Madrid Castilla coach where he later was appointed as the head coach of the first team where he enjoyed unprecedented success winning UEFA champions league three time in a row.

Zizou has also starred in several movies – making a cameo in an episode of the immensely popular animated sitcom Family Guy in 2006 where he appears as himself in a Pizza Delivery and headbutts a customer – which was a direct parody on his head-butt to Marco Materazzi a few months earlier.

Furthermore, he starred as himself in the popular football trilogy, GOAL, which chronicles the fictional character Santiago Munez as he progresses from the amateur ranks to becoming a global superstar and also made a guest appearance in the 2006 movie, Asterix at the Olympic Games...
