The battle for the vote-rich Mount Kenya region is expected to take a new twist after the latest message from former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri.

In Kiunjuri's night message that could have a bearing on Deputy President William Ruto's bid to swing the region in his favour ahead of the 2022 general election, the former CS warned that no politician should start bragging as if they have already secured the support of Mount Kenya.

" The mountain is so tall, covered with slippery ice and a tough terrain. The weather can be very rough too. It is therefore, advisable to keep wooing the people and it's leaders rather than proceeding as if the deal is sealed," The Service Party leader said in a Facebook post.

Going by the recent political developments in Mount Kenya, the comment by the former Cabinet Secretary appears to be aimed at Dr Ruto, who seems to have fallen out with his former allies in the region.

The worrying message by Kiunjuri comes barely a day after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria hit out at the DP's United Democratic Alliance camp, accusing it of propagating old school politics in the region by allegedly silencing other political parties.

This new development comes at a time the DP's political game plan in the region appears to be running into headwinds with cracks starting to emerge.

The decision by Kiunjuri and Kuria to refuse folding their parties to join UDA could be a sign of bad things to come heading to 2022.

If Kiunjuri's message was directed at the DP, then Ruto should get out of the comfort zone and go back to drawing board. If not, his goose is cooked.
