8 Schools Have Progressed to the Next Stage of the NSMQ Competition - Check if Your School Qualified

The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) also popularly known as the “Brilla” (meaning brilliant) Competition seeks to test knowledge of secondary school students with Pure Science (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) background in solving mathematical and scientific problems. The competition has produced a lot of great men and women in field of science such as Dr. Elsie Effah-Kaufmann, NSMQ Quizmistress, just to mention a few. The 27th edition of the competition started today, Monday, May 3, 2021 in two of Ghana’s regions: Upper West and Greater Accra.

Several schools battle it out at the regional level and victors of the various contests are given the opportunity to compete at the next stage in Accra. After exhilarating performances and display of academic prowess from contestants of the twenty-seven (27) schools from the Upper West and Greater Accra regions, eight (8) schools have qualified to the Preliminary Stage of the competition - four (4) from each region. They stood their ground from Round 1 through to Round 5 and aimed at the glory in the end. The following schools have progressed to the next stage of the competition, the Preliminary Stage.

Upper West Region

a. St. Francis Xavier Jnr Seminary

b. Jirapa SHS

c. St. Francis Girls’ SHS

d. Lawra SHS

Greater Accra Region

a. Holy Trinity Cathedral SHS

b. West Africa SHS


d. Tema Methodist SHS

These schools await the outcomes from the various contests which would take place across the fourteen (14) remaining regions across the country between from tomorrow, Tuesday, May 4, 2021 to Thursday, June 3, 2021.
