Atletico Madrid came back from a 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Real Sociedad at home. Luis Suarez scored a second-half brace.
After a three-week layoff due to the international break, Diego Simeone's side played their first league match in three weeks, and there was rustiness in their play as Real Sociedad took a deserved two-goal lead. Suarez, on the other hand, would not be denied, as Atleti rallied to climb up to fourth position in the Liga standings, with a point enough to retain Imanol Alguacil's side in first place.
Diego Simeone's men made a poor start to the match as Alexander Sorloth finished underneath Jan Oblak to put Real Sociedad ahead after being released in behind the Atleti backline by Sweden forward, Alexander Isak.
Just 3 minutes into the 2nd half, Isak put the ball in the back of the net with a freekick that he steered past Oblak, who could've done a lot better with his dive.
Suarez gave Atletico Madrid a route back into the game after the hour mark when he got on the end of a Joao Felix cross into the box and headed past Alex Remiro, energizing the home fans.
With little over 10 minutes remaining, Suarez equalized from the penalty spot after VAR spotted a foul inside the area by Mikel Merino on the Uruguayan striker. The comeback, however, was short-lived, as both clubs settled for a draw.
