BACK TO SCHOOL : Eastern Cape ready to reopen schools despite facing some challenges.
Schools in the Eastern Cape will be reopening on the 19th of January 2022 as scheduled despite the challenges being faced by the department . The challenge being faced by the province is in regard to the schools that were damaged by the storms . Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay are reported to be the two metros that still have most learners that are not yet placed in schools
.The Eastern Cape province is reported to be having 831 pupils that are not yet placed in schools .The department is ready to reopen schools on Wednesday . The only problem is in regard to the schools that were damaged by the storms in the province .The number of affected schools in the province continues to increase in Eastern Cape . It grew from 87 on Monday to 97 on Tuesday .The department is reported to be having a budget to repair 57 schools in the province .A forecast that was reportedly made by the weather services revealed that there was an expectation of a wet spell on Tuesday , meaning that there may be an increase in the number of affected schools.
Mr Fundile Gade , who is the Eastern Cape's Education MEC revealed that they had decided to reopen the schools on Wednesday regardless of what has taken place from December up to the current storms .He admitted that even though some schools had been damaged , they had made sure that resources got availed to ensure that learners attended school .The Premier informed media that not all schools had been damaged by the storms . He also stated that the level of damage in school varied from school to school . He remained optimistic regarding the scheduled reopening .
