9The National Communication Authority (NCA) has notified the public through the media outlets that they are about to close 49 radio stations which are operating without license.
They are compelled to do so after monitoring the Satellite free-to-air television stations using their monitoring systems.
NCA further noted that the Communications act 775 of 2008 was breached by the TV stations since the law emphatically states that ‘Except as provided by this Act or any other law not inconsistent with this Act, a person shall not operate a broadcasting system or provide a broadcasting service without a frequency authorisation by the Authority’.
As part of their operations which started on Tuesday, April 21, a joint team of Ghana Police Service and National Security Intelligence operatives in collaboration with National Communications Authority stormed the offices of Thunder TV and Ice1 TV.
The owner of the TV stations, Patience Asiedua, also known as Okomfo Agradaa was arrested. Also, some equipments were seized by the team.
Okomfo Agradaa uses her TV stations for advertising her money doubling rituals of which she call "Sika gari".
