Worshipers On The Run After Akwa Ibom State Government Demolished Church Building

Report has it that on Tuesday 23rd June, 2020, that the Akwa Ibom State Government had arrested the General Overseer of The Knowledge of God Ministry, identified as Prophet Victor Elijah, alongside with some of his members and in this way demolished his church building.

Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen, the Chief of Staff to the Akwa Ibom State Governor in his briefing, told newsmen that Pastor Victor and his members were arrested on the grounds that they failed to agree to the rules and regulations specified to forestall the spread of the horrendous Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.

From the statement made by Akparawa Ephraim, the church held an uncommon petition (special prayer) which included a large number of people, thereby making them to violate the rules and regulations to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The State COVID-19 Task Force Committee was alarmed by concerned people, during the service.

Arriving at the church venue at Paulinus Urua Street, behind the state Ministry of Works, they arrested the members of the church and Pastor Victor (the leader of the church) .

Many of the church members should have been arrested but majority of them manage to escape. In this way, they demolish the church building without hesitation.

Akparawa Ephraim stated;

"We got a tip from a concerned resident informing us that a specific church situated at Paulinus Urua Street, behind the Ministry of Works was having a special prayer meeting/sevcie and we quickly reacted.
What we saw was an all out calamity (total disaster). More than one thousand people had gathered in a little small cubicle ; no social distancing and none of them was wearing face masks. The crowd was so much that place couldn’t contain them.
In response to this act of lawlessness by that church and in order to avoid the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom State, we decided to arrest the pastor and some of his members and demolished the buidling.

The worshipers that were arrested was handed over to the police as they anticipate to confront the law of the state government.
