Flashback: Some GES teachers will not be promoted – NAPO

Former Minister for Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh last year said the Ghana Education Service (GES) will not promote some teachers of the Service who went for post-graduate and other courses without permission from their Head of school or the Ghana Education Service.

The Manhyia South Member of Parliament speaking on Peace 104.3 FM KoKrokoo show monitored by Educationweb.com.gh said many of the teachers went for post-graduate and others without seeking permission.

According to him, some teachers asked for permission but did courses not in relation to what they teach in school.

The immediate past Education Minister suggested they could have done their masters in the subject or course they were employed to teach by the Ghana Education Service instead of doing masters in different course.

“You teach French in your school but when you went for MBA, you did MBA in finance”, he told Sefa Kayi adding that “the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) on this basis can not promote a teacher”.

“So the Ghana Education Service like everybody else’s business will find it difficult to promote such teachers automatically”, NAPO stressed.

The former Minister for Education, however, indicated all teachers who sought permission from the Education Service have duly been promoted.
