Naivasha, Nakuru County, has seen a dramatic spike in condom sales since the start of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally two days ago.

In a worsening of the situation, King's Condom Promotion CEO Stanley Ngara remarked, "We have 10,000 condoms only that were bought by our partners because at the moment there are no free ones that are typically given out for free by the government."

Sheath devices are no longer available from most Naivasha condom vendors as of the previous day.

But yesterday night there was joy as a good man arrived with a car full of condoms.

The man popped the sunroof of his car and began handing out condoms.

Some people appeared eager to get the item, even though many others were trying to avoid having their pictures taken.

Government officials have issued warnings to rally-goers about the dangers of engaging in unsafe sex that can lead to sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies.

Visitors from all around the world, including many Kenyans, will be in Naivasha throughout the course of the four-day championships.

Economists estimate that about Ksh5 billion will change hands over the course of the four days in Naivasha.

The good news for those working in the hospitality industry is that all available hotel rooms have been reserved.
