Going straight to the point of view on why the southern governors insisted on collecting VAT, according to the statement made by the Governors during their meeting, it was gathered that the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) by the northern state governments would go a long way in boosting their economic growth and development. Unlike the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), which has the responsibility of collecting VAT which goes into the coffers of the federal government, Value Added Tax (VAT) would be beneficial to the interim state government.
