You must have noticed that you normally get hungry when chewing a gum. Today let me explain to you what actually happens in your body untill you feel hunger.
Chewing gum stimulates the gastric glands in the mouth to produce more saliva. When you swallow this saliva, your stomach thinks there is food coming and starts preparing for digestion. This therefore makes you hungry. It is just like chewing food and instead of swallowing you spit it away.
A study carried out at university of Rhode Island revealed that people who chew gums shortly before lunch eat 68 fewer calories and also tries to avoid sugary foods.
Another research also showed that after chewing gum, people prefer junk salty foot to healthy food because the minty taste in chewing gums makes healthy food taste bad.
