The commentators curse - Orlando Pirates penalty curse was highlighted in Soccer Laduma

Orlando Pirates suffered yet another penalty shoot out heartache.

It is interesting to note that on Wednesday Soccer Laduma adviced Pirates to miss the shootout.

With this final being over one leg as opposed to the two-legged finals of the past, any draw in 90 minutes penalties, with no extra time played.

Unfortunately for Pirates, they have an awful record in shootouts. Prior to ending the curse against Simba SC earlier this season, much to the relief of their fans, Bucs had lost nine penalty shootouts in a row, including in two cup finals. In the 2018/19 campaign, their shot at silverware was destroyed by three cup exits on the dreaded tie-breaking method.

In 2019/20, as they looked to end a long trophy drought, they crashed out against Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits on penalties.

Earlier this season in the Nedbank Cup, Pirates lost 6-5 to Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup after a 1-1 draw after extra time. They led 4-2 at one point in that shootout before misses from Ndah, Linda Mntambo and Dzvukamanja.

Thanks to Ofori, they may enter this final with a little more belief should the match go the full distance after a 4-3 penalty shootout win just six weeks ago.
