Manchester United and Arsenal are busy in the transfer window to strengthen their respective squads this summer after experiencing a disastrous campaign last season that saw both teams finishing the league at position 5 and 6 respectively

As per reliable news , it has been reported that Old Trafford club and the Gunners have hooked horns in a bidding war to win the signature of Ajax and Argentina defender, Lisandro Martinez.

Arsenal made an opening bid of £26million for 25-year-old Ajax defender, Lisandro Martinez.

The Sun has  claimed that the bidding has been improved to £34m as the Gunners attempt to outshine the interests of their close rival, Manchester United.

According to talkSPORT, it's claimed that the Red Devils are prepared to launch a fee of around £40m, which comes close to Ajax's expected valuation for the Argentine defender, and United also have advantage over their rival Arsenal of Erik ten Hag, who was his former manager at Ajax

Martinez played at Ajax under Erik ten Hag before the Dutchman's move to United last campaign , with reports claiming that the Ajax star prefers a move to Old Trafford.

Yet according to Telegraaf, Martinez has his hopes pinned on United, who he sees as a 'top club' - whilst also being high on Ten Hag's wishliist.

Developments are expected to be seen over the next two days as the Argentine looks for an exit from the Eredivisie.
