Rainstorm causes havoc in Yendi Municipality, several communities in need of urgent help

Residents of Bunbon Naayili and Pion electoral areas, in the Yendi Municipality of the northern region, are passionately appealing to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to come to their aid by helping them repair their homes ravaged rainstorms. On Thursday April 8, 2021 and again on Sunday April 11 two separate rainstorms ripped off the roofing of many houses in the communities. Properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed.

Schools, church and clinic buildings were destroyed by the storm. In a community called Bunbon Naayili, houses with zinc roofing had their entire roofs ripped off, rendering almost the entire community homeless. The residents of the two electoral areas, are therefore appealing to NADMO and the Yendi Municipal Assembly to come to their aid.

The assembly member for the Bunbon Naayili electoral area, Moses Yelmangli told this portal that, his people are in desperate need of help. He said community schools have been closed down due to the fact that the schools had roofs ripped off. He said NADMO would need to urgently intervene and support the affected areas with roofing sheets and other relief items.

The zonal coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization, Alhassan Abu Sofyanu, who confirmed the incident, stressed that NADMO is working around the clock to get some relief items for the affected communities. He however, noted that the extent of damage caused by the rainstorm is extensive.

He called on other bodies and philanthropists to support NADMO in supporting the victims.
