Court Refix Judgement in Orji Uzor Kalu Suit Against Retrial

On Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered a hearing on September 10 in the case filed by ex-Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, challenging his retrial. After hearing final arguments from lawyers for the parties, Justice Inyang Ekwo set the date.

Kalu is fighting a retrial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a N7.1billion fraud allegation after the Supreme Court overturned his previous trial and conviction, along with two others.

However, following Udeogu's appeal, the Supreme Court overturned their trial and conviction in a decision issued on May 8 ,2020, on the grounds that the trial judge, having been raised, should not have continued to hear the case.

SSS Approve Kalu Meeting with Lawyer

The Department of State Security Service has consented to allow Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to meet with his lawyers.
