Pelvic Inflammatory Disease refers to an Infection of the female genitals. The affected organs include the Uterus( womb), Fallopian tube and the Ovaries, excluding the Vulva. Organisms that causes it include bacteria, candida albicans etc.

Furthermore, Urinary Tract Infection refers to an infection affecting the urinary tract system including the kidney, bladder, ureter and urethra. UTI is more pronounced in females because of their short urethra. The organisms that causes it include bacteria of various strains, Etc.

Examples of this infections are Gonnorrhea, Syphilis, Non gonococcal utheritis, Trichomoniasis, Candidiasis Etc.

Symptoms may include lower abdominal pain, painful urination, painful intercourse, heamaturia (blood) in urine, foul smelling discharge, fever etc.

Effects of self medication and use of concoctions (washing & setting), may cause the invading organisms to build resistance to ordinary antibiotics. Therefore, tests can be done using Urine Microscopy, Culture and Sensitivity as well as HVS( High vaginal swab) and urethral swab for women and men respectively.

Finally, avoid the use of public toilets especially females, keep to basic personal hygiene rules during your menstruation, use protection for intercourse and reduce multiple partners.
