Pirates' Newcomer Has A Bright Future With The Club After A Spectacular Performance

Date: Friday, 26 November

Playing for one of the top three clubs in South Africa is great honour for any player in the PSL, but to play for Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs means that players would usually have to prove themselves worthy for a certain position as there are many players who fills the same position. The competition with one of the big three clubs in the PSL is overwhelming, but players does not have a choice as they have to compete for a spot on the team.

When a player is new at a club he would usually get a start from the bench to see what he has to offer and or a start in the starting lineup if he is highly rated or just lucky to cut the starting eleven. Competing or defending a spot is not easy, but players take their chances and offer their expertise in their respective positions to their fullest ability to maintain that spot or possibly claim that spot as a regular starter.

Collins Makgaka grabbed the attention of Orlando Pirates last season and the club roped in the player landing his signature making him part of the team, as he joined from rival PSL club Baroka FC. Makgaka did not get the desired game-time with Pirates and had a slow start to the season, but that all changed after co-coach Fadlu Davids praised him for his superb performance in Orlando Pirates 3-0 win against Stellenbosch FC away from home.

"Collins was absolutely fantastic today [Wednesday] in terms of his calmness in between the lines, number one. But, also then finding players in between defence lines and if he has the ball, you are guaranteed to have a one-on-one. If you make the correct run, the ball will find ", Davids told the club's media department. What Makgaka did is exactly what players at their new club needs to do to get game-time and a regular spot in the squad. When a coach speaks so highly of a player after a match win, then surely he will have a bright future at his respective club.
