LGBTQI And Visa Brouhaha: Ghanaians 'Divided' As Muntaka Sends A Bold Message To Embassies


In the wake of the brouhaha surrounding the LGBTQI phenomenon, there have a misty chance that the debate will end soon. A National Democratic Congress MP, Honourable Sam Nartey George in his private bill to promote "Proper Human Sexual Rights" has sponsored a private bill set for deliberation in Parliament. Ghanaians anticipate the final outcome of the bill, with some MPs who have mounted a stiff campaign against the bill.

In the spirit of the anti LGBTQI bill, some Members of Parliament have revealed the ordeal they are going through owing to their respective stance on the bill. Recall, earlier today, a lawmaker indicated that he had been denied Visa for supporting the bill. According to Honourable Suhuyini, he has been denied visa a number of times since he publicly subscribed to the bill.

A while ago, Member of Parliament for Asawase constituency who doubles as the Chief Whip for the Minority Caucus in Parliament, Honourable Muntaka Mubarak has also dropped a bold statement in reaction to the revelations made by his fellow lawmaker, Hon. Suhuyini. He has expressed utmost disinterest in the manner in which some lawmakers are being attacked for supporting the bill.

In an interview today, October 13, 2021, th lawmaker sent a strong message to the diplomatic community that their stay in the country will not be pleasant enough should they continue to deny Members of Parliament Visa. According to him, he finds it difficult to comprehend how the bill pending before Parliament can affect the normal lives of lawmakers.

He stated that, no amount of threats or intimidation can coerce the lawmakers from doing what is right by passing the bill. His comments has received the attention of the general public as some Ghanaians have shared their views on his statement. Per the massive reactions, some Ghanaians have jumped to his defense, calling on him to remain resolute on his stance to pass the bill. Others have also blasted him over his comment.
