Today, together with Hon Peter Munya, CS Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives, we handed 48 Million cheque to miraa farmers in Siakago in Mbeere North Subcounty.
The revolving fund will enable Miraa farmers to borrow, at 3% interest. I encouraged the farmers to endeavour to make their savings through their established saccos.
I also advised parents on the governments directive to ensure children are going to school and shouldn't be engaging in miraa business at the expense of their studies.
In addition, I encouraged women and youth to access these finances and improve their livelihoods through miraa farming.
Farmers were excited about the miraa safety study being done by Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) and Pest Control Products Board (PCPB). This will help in getting external markets for the farmers upon using the right production inputs example pesticides.
Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. The Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Hon. Peter Munya awarded Kenya Forest Service with three (3) trophies for exemplary performance during the Agricultural Society of Kenya.
