The Star newspaper, which is part of the Radio Africa Group, has released a new poll that ranks presidential candidates in the August 9 general elections.

According to a study published in The Star on Wednesday, the two leading candidates, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto, are in a dead heat.

Ruto continues to lead the field in surveys, with 43.3 percent, however Raila has closed the gap to 42.4 percent. Kalonzo Musyoka is in third position with only 4% of the vote. This has allowed Kalonzo Musyoka to play kingmaker, preventing Ruto and Raila from reaching the required 50+1 percent. In the Mt Kenya area, William Ruto maintains his lead over Raila, according to the survey.

Tifa Research has done similar opinion polls in the past. In Tifa's polls, Raila received 39 percent of the vote, with Ruto coming in second with 35 percent. Kalonzo came in third place with 2%.

On the other hand, a number of Ruto allies dismissed the polls, claiming they were funded by a group of Azimio leaders.
