There has been clamour for empowerment of women across the world. There have been a number of legislative activities geared towards creating a favourable environment for girls and women to thrive in professions as well as political and economic sectors. The kenyan constitution created room for women represantation in the National Assembly at the county level. The kenyan first lady has been urging women to go for elective positions rather than waiting for nominations or affirmative action. Many organisations have come in to boost this move to elevate the women from their initially disadvantaged position. There is a positive gesture from male leaders to support the programmes that will give women equal opportunities that their male counterparts enjoy.
The Microsoft and Tech4Dev companies have come into partnership to empower women aged 16-40 across 54 African countries. This partnership will see a one-year fellowship programme for girls and women to gain technology skills under the Women Techsters Initiative. Among the tech skills to be taught include; software development, product design and management, data science, artificial intelligence, engineering and cyber security. The main objective behind the initiative is to give women greater access to skills and training to not only unlock innovation but also economic opportunities. Besides, those who will benefit from the programme are expected to start technology-based businesses that will promote Africa's economic growth. This effort is progressive in nature and augurs well for the future since it will create an enabling environment where every boy and girl will exploit on their potential.
