Before and After Pictures of Nigeria's Railway System Under President Buhari Administration (PHOTOS)

We are very much aware of the poor state of railway transportation in Nigeria. In some instances some railways are dead as they were already damaged, dilapidated or beyond repair due to lack of maintenance culture.

The decline of Nigeria's Railways led to the increase in use of roads as a means of connectivity which has in turn led to the poor state of Nigerian roads. The overuse of roads over other means of transportation has put unforseen pressure in the road networks thus, leading many of our roads damaged. Large trucks or tankers which use Nigerian roads have made it a death trap for many travellers. Either you hear of one tanker explosion or you hear of a truck accident which led to loss of lives and property in the news. This occurrence is a daily regular in the lives of Nigerians as news such as this doesn't scare or surprise citizens anymore.

Due to this need, the government has seen it important for other means of transportation to be developed, revived or revamped. This need has certainly led to the ongoing massive development of railway lines across Nigeria from the North to the South, East to West.

These are the transformation the rail sector is experiencing under President Muhammadu Buhari administration. Buhari might be poor in other sectors of the country and economy but he has so far been the best president we've had in a while in terms of transportation.

These photos were the decrepit conditions our railways were before the railway modernization masterplan took off during ex president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The railway modernization plan has been maintained and continued to be improved upon by the Buhari led administration. The railway sector has seen rapid expansion and the development of new and viable lines linking other parts of the country.

Kudos must also be given to the immediate past government led by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for starting the railway modernization plan and he delivered the first standard gauge railway in Nigeria with the Abuja—Kaduna railway and the intra-city Abuja Metro Line. Also started the ground work of the Lagos—Kano railway.
