4 Things That Make A Woman Bleed After Having Intercourse

Have you ever bled during or after intimacy? It’s more common than you might think. Today, I will talk about the possible factors that lead to heavy bleeding after intercourse.

Among other things, bleeding after intimacy can be an adverse effect of menopause, or it can be a sign of a severe health condition. Bleeding after intercourse is also known as postcoital bleeding.

Some of the things that make a woman bleed after intimacy include.

1. Cancer

Irregular bleeding of the female private part, including bleeding after intimacy, is a usual symptom of cervical or vaginal cancer. It was the symptom for which 11% of those diagnosed with cervical cancer first sought treatment.

2. Vaginal dryness

Vaginal dryness can cause bleeding.

3. Polyps

Polyps are noncancerous growths. They’re sometimes discovered on the cervix or in the endometrial lining of the womb. A polyp dangles like a round pendant on a chain. Polyp movement can irritate the surrounding tissue and lead to bleeding from small blood vessels.

4. Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM)

GSM was before referred to as vaginal atrophy. The condition is common in those in perimenopause and menopause and those whose ovaries have been removed.

As you age, mostly when your menstrual periods cease, your body makes less estrogen. Estrogen is the hormone responsible for controlling your reproductive system.

When the levels of estrogen are lesser, many things occur to the private organ of the female.

Your body makes less vaginal lubrication, so your private organ can become inflamed and dry.

Lower estrogen levels also lower the elasticity of a woman's private organ. Vaginal tissues become more fragile, get less blood flow, and are more exposed to the risk of tearing and irritation. This can cause discomfort, pain, and bleeding during intercourse.
