Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a former Presidential spokesperson, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Tuesday, became the first Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prominent politician to formally declare his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the opposition party.

Okupe in his statement promised a government that prioritises the needs of the poor.

However, as controversies continues to trail the insinuations that the opposition party may zone its presidential ticket to the South, no fewer than three other PDP gladiators are likely to join the presidential race from both the Southern and Northern region.

The first PDP chieftain who may join 2023 presidential race is Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.

Recall that Wike one of the most articulate member of the PDP and had also joined other southern governors to demand that the next presidency should be zoned to the South.

In line with this, the Governor joined other Southern PDP Governors to vote for zoning of PDP national chairmanship to the North, which may invariably open door for the emergence of a Southern presidential candidate.

Moreover, another PDP prominent politician who is likely to publicly announce his presidential ambition soon is former vice-president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku, a Northerner is believed to be one who despite his loss at the last presidential election, is strongly making efforts to emerge as the party's 2023 presidential flag bearer and as a result, may publicly declare his ambition anytime soon.

Also, although they both lost the last PDP presidential primary ticket to Atiku, the Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal and ex-Senate president, Bukola Saraki are two other PDP chieftains who may likely join Okupe in the 2023 presidential race.

Both Tambuwal and Saraki are major stakeholders of the party who over time has continued to make efforts to ensure the party is well positioned to emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections.

Consequently, as Nigerians await what decision the opposition party will take in regards to which zone of the country should produce next president, who do you think is the ideal presidential candidate the PDP should present in 2023 ?
