CAPE TOWN – A Nyanga police officer is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday on charges of sodomizing a male victim in the back of a SAPS vehicle.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) on Sunday reported that the 29-year-old victim notified his cousin, who is also a police officer, about the event that allegedly took place last Thursday.

According to Ipid, the 31-year-old officer was detained and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

"On Thursday, December 2 at around 4 p.m., the male victim was in the Jet shop at Junction Mall, where security feared he planned to steal clothing," Ipid stated in a statement.

"Police were called, and upon arrival, they handcuffed and assaulted him, and put him at the back of the police van and transported him to Browns Farm satellite office where police passengers got out, and the driver drove with him to Nyanga police station and picked up a female officer and dropped her off at Crossroads, then drove with him (victim) to a gravel road to the bushes near the airport where he stopped and opened the door, told the victim to kneel while

According to the Ipid, the cop was accused of holding a gun to the victim's stomach before forcing him to view a porn movie, take down his trousers, and sodomize him.

"When he was finished, he drove with him to his residence in Khayelitsha, changed his police clothes, and later transported the victim home to Gugulethu."

"The victim called his cousin, a police officer, and asked him to come to his house and explain what had transpired."

"The SAPS member stationed at the Nyanga police station was arrested and held; he will appear in court on Tuesday, December 7," Ipid added.
