Sundowns register first league three points against Cape Town City

The Premier Soccer League tittle holders Mamelodi Sundowns resume thier 2022/2023 season campaign with a victory away from home against the Citizens Cape Town City.

Aubrey Modiba and Themba Zwane got into the scoresheet for away side in the second half after both teams played to a goalless draw in the opening first half.

An exciting 90 minutes display which saw the two go pound for pound looking to register first goal of the new season but mostly were denied in front of goal.

Citizen's captain Thabo Nodada and Daniels had chances to get in the scoresheet but were both poor in front of goal, Domingo also had chances but was not lethal to rattle the net.

A stunning and sensational free kick from Modiba in the 58th minute after Domingo was brought a few meters outside of the box which broke the home side deadlock.

However it never lasted long after Zwane extended the lead 0-2 from Domingo long pass beating defenders and the keeper.

Ronween Williams managed kept a clean sheet his first game for Sundowns after a save from which caught his defence out of position.

Sundowns walked away with maximum points and ended Cape Town City unbeaten record in opening fixtures.
