Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder kingpin Surprise Moriri tells how he use to play soccer with his school shoes and earne some lashes from parents when he comes home with torn shoes.
Surprise says he was too passionate about the game and he just couldn't resist playing though he knew he was going to get some thorough beating.
“Back home, I’d play football the whole day. I had so much love for the game. I remember one time I tore my school shoes playing football with older guys and my parents gave me a thorough beating.”
Moriri also tells how his first attempt didn't work out and he then tried his luck with the now defunct Silver Stars and Owen Da Gama gave him a chance before he attracted attention from Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Before I went to trials at Silver Stars, I tried my luck at Sundowns and was unsuccessful. I spent a couple of weeks there, the players loved me, but it seemed the technical team weren’t sure whether they wanted me or not,” he says.
