The National Communication officer for the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi has blame the president, the then energy minister and the then attorney general and minister for justice for the recent ruling against the country by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Tribunal, following the termination of contract with the Ghana Power Generation Company (GPGC). According to Sammy Gyamfi, the Government could have avoided this judgement but it decided not to do so.
He further noted that it is clear that this judgement is a result of criminal negligence and recklessness of the Government. Their recklessness in terminating the contract with the GPGC on the basis of contrived and frivolous excuses is the reason why the country has been slapped with this debt.
"It is crystal clear from the foregoing facts that are contained in the arbitrary award that this huge judgement debt of $170 million has been occasioned by the criminal negligence, incompetence and recklessness of the Akufo-Addo government. Their wilful recklessness in terminating the DPGC EPA on the basis of contrived and frivolous excuses in the reason why Ghana has been slapped with this avoidable judgement". He noted.
According to the Communication Director of the NDC, this matter needs a serious investigation.
