Rich Ghanaian Celebrities Who Are Still Humble Despite Their Fame

Only a few people will truly understand what being a celebrity really involves. Celebrities are generally known for so many things which might include; pride, arrogance, extravagance, affluence, flamboyance, to mention a few. Just like in most African countries, we have rich Ghanaian celebs who have been outstanding within and beyond the shores of the country. These celebs are known for their exceptional personalities. I have picked out a few from the bunch who have been identified to lead a simple lifestyle despite their status in society.


1. John Dumelo.

John Dumelo is a popular Ghanaian actor who has been in the movie industry since 1991. He began acting at a young, making his debut in the movie, baby thief(https://youtu.be/e0g9PRUDFOs) He was born on February 3,1984. He had his secondary education at Achimota Secondary School and went on to university to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

The acting career has taken him places, a good example being Nigeria, where he had a lot of roles in Nollywood movies. Dumelo has three prestigious awards to his name and has also been nominated for several awards also.

Alongside acting, Dumelo is also an entrepreneur and farmer.  


2. Majid Michel.


Is a popular face on TV screens in Africa known for his acing prowess and charisma. He was born to a Lebanese father and a Ghanaian mother on September 22,1980. He had his secondary education in Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast. He pursued his passion for modelling before moving to acting. He made his first appearance in “things we do for love”. From there, he has just been going higher with almost all his films becoming major success.


3. Jackie Appiah.

Undoubtedly everyone’s favorite, Jackie Appiah is a screen diva. she was born Jackie Agyeman Appiah on December 5, 1983. In Canada. The beautiful actress spent her early years in Canada until age 10, when she moved from Canada to Ghana with her mother.

The last of five kids, Appiah has a son who she had with her husband. The couple got married in 2005. She started out with “things we do for love” and has since appeared in several Ghallywood and Nollywood films.


4. Sarkodie.

born Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie is a Ghanaian hip-hop, hiplife artist. He was born in Tema on July 10, 1984. He was the fourth of his mother’s five kids. He started rapping at a very young age. He is famous for rapping mainly in twi. Addo has a lot of awards, nomination and high accolades to his name. With most people seeing him as the best rapper not just in Ghana but in Africa as a whole.


5. Nadia Buari.


Nadia Buari was born in Sekondi-Takoradi, on November 21,1982. She has been active in the movie industry since 2005. She was born to a Ghanaian mother and a Lebanese father. She holds a BFA degree from the university of Ghana. she first appeared in the television series ‘games people play’ in late 2005.

The actress is a mother of twins. She also dated Nigerian actor Jim Iyke, who proposed to her in 2014.


6. Nana Ama McBrown.

If you watch a lot of Ghanaian movies then you would agree that Nana Ama McBrown is a household name. She has been in the movie industry since 1998 and has several films to her name . she was born on August 15,1977, in Kumasi.

She was raised in Kwadaso, Kumasi, by her aunt madam Betty Obiri Yeboah and adopted father Kofi McBrown following her parent’s separation.

Her parents - Cecelia Agyenim Boateng and Kwabena Nkrumah also had six other children who were adopted together with Nana Ama by their aunt. The actress never made to secondary school having dropped out before writing the BECE.

She is married to her longtime boyfriend Maxwell Mensah. And they have a beautiful daughter.


7. Joselyn Dumas.

Is best known for her roles in showbiz in addition to acting. She works as a TV personality which made her popular in the entertainment industry. A one-time winner of the Ghana movie award, she was born Joselyn Canfo-Dumas on August 31, 1980. She is the founder of the Canfor-Dumas foundation and currently the brand ambassador of Range Rover Evoque Ghana 

She had her secondary education at archbishop porter girls. She holds a degree in administrative law from a university in USA.


8.Yvonne Okoro.

Is a household name both in Ghana in Nigeria. She was born to a Nigerian dad and a Ghanaian mom on November 25,1984. She made her debut in the film “sticking to the promise” which was produced in 202. Born Chinyere Yvonne Okoro, she is the fifth of all her parents’ children


9.Michael Essien.

Michael Kojo Essien is a Ghanaian professional footballer born on December 3,1982 In Accra. He had his secondary education at ST. Augustness College in Cape Coast, where he played at a local club called Liberty Professionals.


He played for a lot of football cubs. His most notable was his time at Chelsea.


10.Van Vicker.

Van Vicker is a popular Ghanaian actor who has established himself as one of Africa’s most talented movie stars. He was born Joseph Van Vicker on august 1,1997. He lost his father who was a Dutch and was thereby raised by his Ghanaian/Liberian mom.


He started out as a presenter at groove FM. 106.3 before making his debut in the film “divine love” as a supporting character. He is married to Adjoa Vicker, with whom he has had two daughters and a son.
