The facts still remain that Gov. Olusegun Mimiko is very much relevant in Ondo politics. Apart from being a former governor of the state and a former Minister from the same state, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko presently is the political symbol of Ondo State. People Democratic Party (PDP) under Gov. Olusegun Mimiko in 2016 almost won 2016 governorship election in the state. The party’s inglorious defeat was as a crisis of factionalization in the party. Since then Gov. Olusegun Mimiko has been politicizing and making himself politically relevant in Ondo politics.

After leaving the People Democratic Party (PDP), Gov. Olusegun Mimiko in conjunction with Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, a former national chairman of the Labour Party (LP) registered a new party known as  the Zenith Labour Party

It would also be recalled that Gov. Olusegun Mimiko ran for his district senatorial seat in the 2019 general elections. Though he lost but the election was keenly contested.

Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), which is the current political party of Gov. Olusegun Mimiko has also shown interest in contesting for the forthcoming 2020 Ondo governorship election. The party had conducted her primary and already gotten a governorship candidate. So it’s not certain whether Olusegun Mimiko might adopt ether Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu or Justice Eyitayo Jegede
