The minister of information, Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah has paid a visit to the premises of Citi TV and Citi FM on Friday 14th May, 2021 and has given the media house assurances from the government to thoroughly investigate the issues surrounding the manhandling of Caleb Kudah, a journalist who works for the media company.
Caleb Kudah was arrested by the national security following a video he recorded and sent to his colleague. The manner in which the security personnel stormed Citi TV and FM premises to arrest Zoe Abu-Baidoo, a lady counterpart of Caleb who received the video, raised a lot of questions and concerns. After the release of the two journalists from the national security custody, Caleb has given an account of how he was manhandled, and had to take him to lie to the security officers about his identity in order not receive "extra" beatings.
Because of the revelation, the national security has given their word that thorough investigation will be conducted into the issues. The information minister carried on this information of government's commitment to ensure that journalists are well protected and work in safe environment. This, he said, is seen in the setting up of institutions like the National Media Commission to ensure the welfare practitioners.
