Good News To Marijuana Users in Kenya as Softens Stand on the Drug

Marijuana has been illegal in the country for a long time with those who are found either using or in possession of it, are given stiff punishment by Kenyan courts. This has made its users devise ways of transporting and even growing to bypass security officers.

According to, Education and Research Principal Secretary (PS) Simon Nabukwesi has encouraged more research to be done on Marijuana and Miraa to know its health benefits. He further said that Kenya needs scientific findings before it backs its consumption.

“We are being told that consumption of miraa is a health hazard but how dangerous is it to someone’s body when they chew the crop. Our researchers should tell us the benefit of miraa so that people can know its benefits," the PS was quoted by the media house.

This comes at a time when Senator Ledama Ole Kina has been championing for its legal use in the country. He further disclosed that he might be considering reviving a bill that was fronted by former Kibra MP Ken Okoth in 2018 that sought to have legal bhang use.
