The functions of the public service commission in Kenya are important in managing the public service. The constitution of Kenya, 2010 reconstituted the commission with a redefined and expanded mandate. Therefore the membership of Public Service Commission in Kenya consists of the following: a chairperson, a vice chairperson and seven other members appointed by the president with approval of the National Assembly.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Ambassador Antony Mwaniki as public service commission chairperson. A parliamentary committee will now conduct approvals hearings. Antony is currently Kenya's Ambassador in Cuba.
He concurrently serves as the High Commissioner, Ambassador and permanent representative of Kenya to Jamaica, Barbados, At. Kitts & Nevis, Guyana, the Dominican Republic and Caricom.
Therefore twelve candidates had been shortlisted for the position which fell vacant following the death of Stephen Kirogo on May 14.
PSC vice chairperson Charity Kisotu and former special programmes PS Mahboub Mohammed Maalim were among those shortlisted.
