New IGP: President Buhari Appoints DIG Usman Alkali Baba As The New Inspector General Of Police


The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has today 6th April, 2021 approved the appointment of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Usman Alkali Baba as the Acting Inspector General of Police.

The appointment of the DIG takes immediate effect as announced by the Minister of Police Affairs Mohammed Maigari Dangyadi today 6th April, 2021. He is to take over from the outgoing Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu.

Earlier this year, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu had completed his 35 years in service and was due for retirement but the president in the month of February announced the extension of his tenure for three more months which saw to his continuous performance of his duties as the Inspector General of Police.

Until his appointment, DIG Usman Alkali Baba Psc (+), fdc was the DIG in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID). He holds a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) and BA (ED) in Political Science. He is a Fellow of the National Defence College, a member of the International Association of Police Chiefs. He has attended several professional courses and workshops.

DIG Usman Alkali Baba joined the Force in 1988 as a Cadet ASP Officer and rose in rank. He is married with children and has held several offices including; Commissioner of Police Delta State, AIG Zone 5 Benin, Zone 4 Makurdi, Commissioner of Police FCT. He was also posted as DIG in charge of Finance and Administration and several other offices.

Meanwhile the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu is currently in Imo State for an on the spot assessment the state of destruction of The Imo State Police Headquarters and the Nigeria Correctional Service that were recently attacked by hoodlums.
