Gunmen in the early hours of Monday reportedly attacked the 13th Nigerian Police Headquarters in Ukpo, near Awka in Anambra.
Ukpo is located in Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.
Zone 13 includes the three South East states of Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra.
SaharaReporters gathered that the gunmen attacked around 4 a.m. and killed two policemen.
The dead include Inspector Ishaku Aura and Uzoma Uwaebuka.
Their bodies were kept in the hospital morgue.
The incident is the latest in a series of deadly attacks on security forces in the country's southeast.
On April 5, gunmen stormed a police headquarters and a rehabilitation center in Owerri, Imo State, burning 38 vehicles and freeing 1,844 prisoners.
Police stations in the area were also attacked, killing several officers.
The governors of the South-East recently announced the formation of a joint security force, dubbed ‘Ebube Agu’ to combat insecurity.
The government at both state and federal level are working together to ensure that attack on Nigerian personnels is brought to an end.
