Sometimes I wonder when Nigeria is going to be free from insecurity challenges. Sometimes it may sound as though the government is adamant about it but indeed the Government is really putting every effort to create free movement and safety of its citizens. As it stands, there was an attack on Plateau community by gunmen which has led to the death of about seven people.

Based on the statement released by the Iregwe Development Association (IDA) on Sunday, in Jos, 250 houses were razed and seven people were killed in the cause of the attack. This incident took place in some communities in Miango chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to the statement that was signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Davidson Malison, he said that the attackers injured lots of people and over 40 farmlands were destroyed in the area. According to him, he went further to explain that the incident happened on Saturday night and those who sustained injuries in the cause of the attack are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital. He also said that the attack, which lasted for over four hours without interruption, left over 250 houses razed down in the following areas:

1 Zanwra

2 Nche-Tahu

3 Rikwe-Rishe A and B

4 Ri-Dogo

5 Nchu-Nzhwa

The above areas are all in Jebbu-Miango communities of Miango chiefdom. According to Mr Malison, he described the situation as unfortunate, and he urged government and security agencies to strengthen more effort towards securing the lives and property of the people. As it stands, the Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Ubah Ogaba, said that the command had deployed security personnel to ensure tranquility in the affected areas. According to him, the police have taken charge of the situation; more personnel have been deployed to the area and Investigation is also ongoing to bring those responsible for this act to book. In recent times, Plateau has witnessed several such attacks by armed men, mainly on farming communities. Some of the attacks are believed to be carried out by armed herders as a retaliation of the killing of their cattle or other herders by farmers after the cattle invade the farms.
