As per Sky Sports, FIFA has confirmed that they will be using a semi-automated offside technology in the coming World Cup to make offside decisions.

Here is all you need to know:

There will be twelve cameras in the stadium to track twenty-nine data points for each player, 50 times a second. The data point includes their limbs and extremities.

There will be a sensor placed at the center of the ball, sending data 500 times a second.

The technology will then alert the video officials of potential offsides, who will then manually check the play.

Once a decision has been made and confirmed by on-pitch referees and Video Assistant Referees, a 3-D animation will be displayed on the stadium and broadcast screens for supporters to confirm the decision.

This new invention will follow the video assistant referee system that made its debut in the last World Cup.
