Kirinyaga county governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru has sent her heartfelt condolences to the family of Mzee Bernard Kathanga who is a former Member of Parliament.

The late Mzee Kathanga, according to the Kirinyaga governor, served the nation actively in the cooperative movement, and Kirinyaga as MP, Gichugu.

She has also noted that throughout the years, Mzee remained dedicated to public service, culminating to his Shujaa award from the President during last years Mashujaas' celebration.

Mzee Kathanga has been my ardent supporter whose great insights I will miss. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family, his friends and the people of Kirinyaga during this difficult time. Rest well, Mzee Bernard Kathanga.

The late Mzee Kathanga is remembered for having been the man under whom the famous Cooperative Bank building stands to date among several other achievements in the country.

During one of the interviews, he recalled how then powerful head of the civil service Geoffrey Kariithi was ordered by President Kenyatta to write a letter allocating the land to Cooperative Bank after he tried to argue that it belonged to someone else.

Save for a stubborn hobble incurred from a healed paralysis, Bernard Kathanga is fit as a fiddle in his nonagenarian days, his memory lucid clear, his hearing and sight senses good and his humour great.

Kenyans have also overwhelmingly joined the Kirinyaga county governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru in mourning the late.

Below are their messages of condolences.
