The Chadian President, Idris Deby on Saturday, March 27 visited president Muhammad Buhari to have discussions on how to go about the never-ending Boko haram war and also, to find lasting peace in the region as it concerns peace, trade, and mutual co-existence.
Part of the discussions and appeal made by the Chadian president was for President Buhari to extend the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri eastern corridor railway line to Chad to enhance trade between Nigeria and his country.
While speaking with correspondents after his meeting with President Buhari, Deby said his country needed such investments like the rail and road transportation link with Nigeria so as to enable goods to be moved to his landlocked country.
The Chadian president also mentioned that added to the need for the rail line to get to his country, he had discussed a number of other important issues with Buhari including the security challenges faced by Nigeria and Chad and how to strengthen bilateral relations.
Another issue of great importance discussed by the two African leaders was how to link water from the Central African Region Republic to Chad, How to improve power interconnectivity between Nigeria and Chad, and lastly, to resolve the long-standing border closures ordered by President Buhari.
Recall there has been an increasing outrage over the FG's decision to extend the PH-Maiduguri rail line all the way to the Niger republic.
Nigerians have continually argued that there is absolutely no need for the project as there were pressing issues to fix at home.
The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi however, has also, given some reason for the construction adding that it aims to solidify the west African trade routes.
it is not known yet if the Chadian president's appeal will be taken into consideration yet.
