Chelsea are close to announcing their third signing soon. The blue have been very busy in the summer transfer window following a transfer ban which rendered them unable to sign players last summer. Having enlisted Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, Chelsea are looking forward to augmenting their backline which received a lot of criticisms in 2019/20 season. The porous defence saw Chelsea conceding 54 goals missing a lot vital points making it a key component to be considered.

However, the club has been linked with a couple of center backs in the past month with José Giménez and Gabriel Magalhaes popping up in various headlines. Giménez was reportedly Chelsea first choice targeted but the deal never materialised as Athletico were unwilling to let the 25 year old Uruguayan leave.

Latest reports suggest Chelsea are closing in on Brighton and Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk. The player is valued at £40million who appears to be a much cheaper option. The transfer was confirmed by Chelsea right back Rece James on his official page. The player also confirmed the move on his page. Check out the screenshot.

The center back has made 110 appearances in Premier league scoring 6 and assisting 5. He has kept 26 cleansheets so far. He is a longtime defending partner of Shane Duffy in the Brighton backline establishing a good telepathy. The move is similar to that of 2012 which saw Gary Cahill join Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers and went on to be an integral part of the Chelsea team winning all major trophies with the club.
