Annie Ruth Jiagge was born on October 7th 1918.She was the first Ghanaian lawyer judge and women's rights activist.She attended Achimota College and later continued at the London school of economics and political science where she studied law. A boarding house in her Alma matter, Achimota College was named (house formerly known as house 17) was named Annie Baëta Jiagge after her.


Both her parents were teachers .She was said to be fierce, refusing to be intimidated by her male colleagues during her period at the London school of economics and political science.She was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn the following year .She was appointed to the High Court on the 15th of September 1961.


She was the first ever woman high court judge appointed in the commonwealth.She died on June 12th 1996 in Accra after living a successful life and serving as a role model for many.
