Many pundits and fans of Barcelona football club were taken aback when the news broke last summer that star player Luis Suarez is leaving the club after 6 years as Ronald Koeman stepped in as the new coach. Many supporters could not understand the wisdom behind forcing Suarez out after scoring 198 goals in 283 appearances to emerged the third all time highest goal scorer for Barcelona.

However, at the end of the 2020/2021 season, the 33-year-old Uruguayan who was deemed too old at Barcelona had the last laugh as his 20 goals helped his new club, Atletico Madrid clinched the La Liga title for the first time in many years. During an exclusive interview with ESPN.COM, Suarez recalls how he was not shown any respect by Barcelona despite the passion he has for the club.

Suarez stated thus, "I am a player who owes and loves this profession. I fought for a lot of years for Barcelona with pride. It was the way they did it. I gave a lot to the club and I don't think I deserved to be treated that way. I was sent to pitch 3 or pitch 4 to train alone."

Suarez said he is looking forward to playing Barcelona without Messi this Saturday. According to the La Liga table, Atletico Madrid is 4th with 14 points after 7 matches while Barcelona is hanging on at 6th with 12 points after 6 games.
