3 Things You Do That Increases Your Risk For Blood Cancer

The blood accounts for about 8% of the normal weight of your body and plays a vital function in how your body works. As your blood moves throughout your vascular system it makes provision for oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and antibodies to all your organs. Blood comprises of almost equal mix of plasma (the liquid that transports cells, waste, and nutrients, among other things) and blood cells.

When cancer happens in the blood, it’s usually because of an abnormal and too much reproduction of white blood cells. Blood cancers account for about 10% of all diagnosed cancers in the U.S. each year. Blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma are more common in men than women. Childhood leukemia accounts for about 25% of all cancers in children. 

Some of the symptoms of blood cancer include.

• Fever, chills.

• Continuous fatigue, weakness.

Some of the things you consume that cause blood cancer include.

1. Smoking

Smoking can trigger cancer and then block your body from preventing it. Smoking can lead to cancer almost anywhere in your body, including the blood (acute myeloid leukemia).

2. Alcohol consumption

Alcohol can disrupt the healthy production of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets in your bone marrow. For people who suffer blood and marrow cancers, like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, bone marrow function may already be strained due to their disease.

3. Excessive intake of processed meat

Processes meat is also one of the causes of blood cancer. The World Health Organization has classified processed meats such as ham, bacon, and salami as a Group 1 carcinogen (known to trigger cancer) which means that there's strong evidence that processed meats cause cancer. Reduce your Intake of it to avoid blood cancer and other types of cancer.
