Kwale Women Representative Zuleikha Hassan Juma, has opted out of the race to defend her seat during the August 9 general election. Instead, the lawmaker has announced that she will vie for the Kinango MP position.

The MP confirmed the development in an ODM nomination application form which she posted on her Facebook page.

Her decision sets stage for an epic battle in the race for Kinango MP pitting her with the incumbent Benjamin Tayari.

Elected on an ODM ticket in 2017 where he trounced long-serving MP Gonzi Rai, Tayari has since gravitated to the Deputy President William Ruto United Democratic Alliance political formation.

Perhaps, riding on Tayari's political blunder, Hassan is keen to ride on the ODM and the Azimio la Umoja wave that has swept across the region to win the seat and send home the incumbent.

Already a veteran in the game, Hassan, the former ODM coordinator of youth affairs, could become the first woman in Kwale County to be elected to represent a constituency in the National Assembly. But can she really make it?
